6397 never fails to serve up the kind of wardrobe staples you wear and wear into the ground (figuratively speaking, of course; the brand’s luxe fabrications continue to set them apart from the bulk of its peers). Pre-Fall brought a whole new batch of those: gabardine Mao jackets, slinky ribbed knits (one member of the 6397 crew aptly likened them to the second-skin Henleys Mick and Keith favored in the early ’70s), and even a caftan in glossy black silk. Indeed, founder Stella Ishii and her studio team walk the line between polished pieces and her tomboyish tastes with ease; look no further than the vintage-looking long-sleeved polo of seasons past, brought to life here as a chic midi dress, or the way Ishii rendered classic boxing shorts—down to the drawstring—in fine tropical wool.
Navy corduroy came in two styles to suit the most discerning la garçonne: a slim-lapel blazer and a mod little shift. On the note of dresses, 6397 has been offering slip dresses since its earliest collections, but given that shape’s newfound momentum, we’ll wager that the label's Pre-Fall take—with its punky exposed zipper—will do well in stores.
